229. Dvaita Siddhanta --- The Philosophy of Sriman Madhva.......

http://www.speakingtree.in/public/spiritual-blogs/seekers/philosophy/dvaita-siddhanta-the-philosophy-of-sriman-madhva

A HUMBLE PRESENT TO THE LOTUS FEET OF SRIMAN MADHVACHARYA.

The Sloka that lays out the Nine Prameyas (Object of Knowledge):

Sriman Madhvamate:

Harih Paratarah, Satyam Jagat, Tattvatho Bhedho Jivagana, Hareranucara, Nichoccabhavam gatah |

Muktir Naijasukhanubhutir, Amala Bhaktih Tatsadhanam, Hyakshradi Tritayam Pramanam, Akhilamnayaikavedyo Harih ||

1) HARIH PARATARAH

Harih ---------------- Hari
Parataraha -------- (is) Supreme

Shri Hari is the Supreme Lord and there is none superior to Shri Hari. Shri Hari is the One and Only Independent Reality.

2) SATYAM JAGAT

Satyam --------------- True
Jagat ------------------ World

The world is real. According to Sriman Madhvacharya the reality is very much that we live in this world. In context to Sri Sri Shankaracharya calling this materialistic world as a dream, Sriman Madhvacharya says that we are not yet awakened from the dream to say that this is a dream. Hence what is happening at this moment is to be considered. And the world is for real.

3) TATTVATHO BHEDHO JIVAGANA

Tattvatho ------------ Virtues
Bhedho -------------- Difference
Jivagana ------------ Living beings

Difference in beings according to their virtues. Every follower of the Madhva Siddhanta firmly believe in the Pancha-bheda—five real and eternal distinctions—

Atyanta Bheda Darsanam or Pancha-bheda:

a) Jiiveshvara bheda

The difference between Supreme Being and the Individual Soul {God and Living things}

b) Jadeshvara bheda

The difference between Supreme Being and the Non Living Matter {God and Things}

c) Jiiva-Jiiva bheda

The difference between two individual Soul. Within the category of trees there are apple trees and there are lemon trees. {If this has been misinterpreted for division in caste then it is NOT the mistake of the Acharya. It may be the difference between two individuals of same family like two brothers exibiting different characters even though born from same parents, example Ravana & Vibhishana}

d) Jada-Jiiva-bheda

The difference between Individual Soul and Non Living Matter {There is the category of trees and there is the category of hills. Trees and Hills belong to different categories.}

e) Jada- Jada bheda

The difference between Non Living Matter. Within the category of books there are religious books and there are friction books in a shelf.

4) HARERANCARAHA

Harer --------------- Shri Hari’s
Anucaraha -------- Followers

Having talked about difference due to distinction, Sriman Madhvacharya concludes that all are followers and servants of Shri Hari.

5) NICHOCCABHAVAM GATAHA

Nicha --------------- inferior
Uccha -------------- superior
Bhavam ------------ feeling
Gataha ------------- exists

There is gradation among the beings. Some are superior; some are inferior. The law of karma at work. Because of their past karma, there are differences or gradations, Taratamya among Jivas. We have ripe apples as well as raw apples in a basket. Why do we choose only ripe ones to eat????? If this gradation were not to be there we would not have sentenced a criminal to jail. Taratamya is in fact due to our Attitudes and Ego.

6) MUKTIR NAIJASUKHANUBHUTIH

Mukthi ------------- Salvation
Naija ---------------- without
Sukha -------------- Bliss
Anubuthir --------- felt

Moksha is the realization of innate happiness of the self. Ones life has a worthy meaning if it has mukthi (salvation).

7) AMALA BHAKTIH TATSADHANAM

Amala -------------- Pure
Bhakti -------------- Devotion
Tat ------------------- that (mukthi)
Sadhanam --------- Achievement

The means of achieving moksha is uncontaminated and unconditional Bhakti (devotion). Here Sriman Madhvacharya emphasizes on Bhakti alone. There is no mention of Jnana (knowledge). Sriman Madhvacharya feels that Shri Hari is not to be researched but experienced.

8) HYAKSHRADITRITAYAM PRAMANAM

Hya ---------------- Conclusion (Anumana)
Akshara --------- Word (Sruthi) (Sabda)
Adhi -------------- and
Tritayam -------- Third
Pramanam ----- Witness (Pratyaksha)

Sriman Madhvacharya while talking of mukthi says it can be achieved through Bhakti alone. Bhakti towards Shri Hari and the jnana (Knowing about Shri Hari) is already available through perception, inference, and scriptural testimony, ie. Pratyaksha, Anumana, and Sabda.

1) Pratyaksha (perception):

There are Jivatmas who have got the vision of the Supreme at some point of time. Like as we could let us say see “Fire.”

2) Anumana (inference):

Some times at the circumstantial evidence we have got to conclude the presence of the Supreme. Like if there is smoke on a hill we conclude that there must be fire at the bottom of the smoke. Even though fire is not visible from the foot of the hill. Let us suppose there is water in a vessel we immediately conclude it to be hot by seeing the vapors. The earth is rotating on its own axis; there must be some power to spin this huge ball. What is that power which makes this earth rotate?

3) Sabda (Sound from Sruthis):

The testimony of the scripture. This is same as Srimad Ramanuja the exponent of Vishishtadvaita Philosophy also felt that the destiny has proclaimed at the crown of the all scriptures that SRINIVASA of Tirumala is the Para Brahman.

9) AKHILAMNAYAIKAVEDYO HARIH

Akhila -------------- All
Amnaya ----------- Praise
Eva ----------------- only
Vedyo ------------- Vedas
Harih -------------- Hari

Shri Hari, and Shri Hari alone, is praised in all the scriptures.

SHRI HARI PRERANAM ....... SHRI HARI PRITYARTAM

  1. I will prove that madwa philosophy is completly false,by reading following comments u people come to know.......
    1) for madwas there are 5 bedas
    *)jada-jada
    *)jiva -jiva
    *)jiva-iswara
    *)jiswara-jada and jiva-jada
    ---------------------------------------...
BUT TODAYS SCIENCE HAVE PROVED THAT THERE IS NO JADA-JADA BEDA.....i:e according to madhva ,gold can never become silver....but todays science have proved that by changing electronics configuration we can change gold to silver....WHICH ACCORDING TO MADHVA IMPOSSIBLE !!!!!!!.......
    2)jiva-jiva beda:
accoring to dvaita each jiva is suguna and his prakrutika gunas are his own gunas.
BUT I WILL PROVE THAT PRAKRUTHIKA GUNAS ARE NOT OF ATHMAS AND IS SUPER IMPOSED ON ATHMA,BY READING MY FOLLOWING COMMENTS U PEOPLE COME TO KNOW........
1)me myself, i am human i see another human in kama, but if i become dog in next janma,i see dog with kama.....so prakruthika guna kama is not atmans guna
    2) bhudhi:
now when we are human we have high level of bhudhi, but if i become dog in next janma we have bhudhi of the level of dog,so budhi is not atmas guna
if u go on thinking like that u will come to know that ,these gunas atman got from MAYA of jagath..and is not atmans guna ....so atman is nirgua and jagath is maya............so madwas jath is truth and 5 bedas are false.......
CAN ANY MADWA CAN ANSWER MY QUESTION?

    1. Thank you Srivathsa Rao sir for your views..... i think we are not here to prove or disprove any philosophical statements. Moreover the Madhva Philosophy is equally enlightening as the philosophy of Srimad Ramanuja or Sri Sri Sankara While Sri Sri Sankara was talking about Atma (Chaitanya) which is the part of the Absolute which i understand even you reiterated in this response of your, Sriman Madhva in conjunction talks of the mind and intellect (Manas and Buddhi) index.

Bedhas which are mentioned is only at the Annamaya, Pranamaya, Manomaya and Vijnanamaya level not at the Anandamaya level. For the matter at Annamaya kosha level it is pure existence alone that the difference is felt. in Pranamaya the large variety of Plant life some are weeds and plucked out while some are nurtured with manure. Like so even in Manomaya kosha level a mosquito is slapped while we find rearing of honey bee. And we also know at the vijnanamaya level we do find differences in every human otherwise there would be no one in prisons.

Sir i am not contesting on your views but purely and humbly putting out what i have understood from Madhva philosophy if my thinking is not correct please correct me .......As far as science i think even it has rated the matters in its periodic table highlighting the difference in every atomic number and atomic mass.......Also i have read that Gold Silver and Copper have similar electron configuration and are called noble metals ......Noble what does that mean please clarify Sir .........Good Day :):):):):):):)
