666. Life’s a Stage: Play your Part and Leave Gracefully…….!

In a busy street there was a mirror shop in the corner and the workers were unloading a huge mirror. Accidentally the mirror slipped from the sweat hands of a worker and it fell on the road. The pieces were shattered all across the road and in each of the pieces there was the reflection of Sun. Thus there were numerous reflected beams and in each there was Sun. Though when the mirror was in one piece there was only one Sun now each mirror piece projected the image of Sun and one could look at many reflections of Sun in them.

Now when each mirror piece had the reflection in it, each piece of mirror started identifying itself with the reflection, and began feeling and believing that it was a separate independent entity, which was not so just a minute back when the mirror was intact. When the mirror was intact the reflection of the Sun was only one. There was total harmony and the reflection was unanimous, but amazingly when it fell and broke, each piece of mirror started believing and acting as a definite entity separate from all the each other and started reflecting Sun separately.

If Sun is Atma or Brahman, the pieces of mirror are like different mental realm and physical bodies with different feelings and thoughts. There is no duality at all Atma is one and the only like the Sun but due to the identification of Self there are various forms which think and feel separately like the reflection of the shattered mirror.

This feel of separateness puffs up the Ego and from it raised divergence, annoyance, abhorrence and violence. In each expression of the mental realm there is an erroneous belief of separateness and this separateness triggers the spirit to fight for its existence. When these mental bodies mingle with each others with the similar thought of separateness a tribe or a community or a religion or a nation is formed.

It is never easy to perceive everything as one, since the illusions of the life has veiled the Ego to such extent that it has become hard to accept the oneness but it is not impossible. If one stops to live on the surface but plunge deep inside to the core he is definitely will see no duality. Where is this separateness when we are in deep sleep? At that time Mind is not active or not so vibrant, to distinguish and feel separate. Mind is nothing but a projection of thoughts, when it is active in the wake state there is a series of unstoppable thoughts. Though in dream sleep state Mind does project all sorts of fantasy events, but in deep sleep the projection of thoughts is temporarily stopped and thus we are not sure of what happened in the deep sleep. It is as if there is no world and hence no worries, but ones the Mind gets activated and starts to vibrate the world and worries cling back on to us.

So it is this Mind and Ego creates the separateness and projects the world as different from me. If we are able to switch off the Mind and limit our Ego there are no illusions of the outside world. Now how to switch off the Mind and limit the Ego? Is there a switch provided in us? If yes, where is a switch?

It is near impossible to switch off the Mind if the seeker is in this worldly stage doing his part. Let us suppose in a drama I am donning a character whose wife and children are dead. I do cry and roll over the stage emotionally as a part of acting but when my part is over those emotions which were enacted by me in the drama have no value at all. Isn't it just like that if I regard this life as a big drama. I will automatically be indifferent what is happening in my Mind and to the ripples of my Ego. When my part is over I have to exit the stage gracefully……..!
