Relationship between two people in any profession is merely give and take. If one is a vendor other is the customer. But there are two professions which does not stop there but continue beyond, one is teaching and other healthcare. Personally I feel both teachers and doctors are next only to God. Hence we have slogans like “Acharya Devo Bhava” (Teacher is God) and “Vaidyo Narayanao Harih” (Doctor is Narayana Himself).
It is very unfortunate that these two are forgotten very soon. Hence there is a Sanskrit quote, “Vaidyascha Upadyacha Karyante Nishprayojakaha” (Doctors and Teachers are useless after their service). This quote in a sarcastic way to remind us not to forget a Doctor and a Teacher. In reality a Teacher is the one who is responsible for a person’s success and a Doctor is the one who cure and helps us to keep the vehicle of the Soul intact. Both these professionals are to be regarded in high esteem always.
What is the reason for the new generation to show disrespect to these two professions? And think they are Nishprayojakaha (useless) even while their service is needed.
Very recently a few doctors suffer from a repugnant superiority complex and more often than not talk to us in a pompous tone. These are the words they normally use; “Pay attention, I do not have time”, “Don’t be too smart…are you the doctor here”, “You listen to me...I know better about it than you.” In the same lines a few teachers are even worse. These are their words; “Your ward is useless…does not pay attention”, “Thinks he/she knows all…. acts as if he/she is the teacher in the class”, “I am fed up with your son/daughter”.
With a few of them behaving so the entire teaching and healthcare professionals are looked in the same wavelength and branded as arrogant. In fact a teacher and a doctor should be more matured compared to other professionals as they are the one who bridge physical science with mystic science. They are the one who can distinguish between Absolute reality, Relative reality and Illusory reality.
Yes, the both professions save life but that does not make them above God. In other words any professional who does his work sincerely and contribute to the society will automatically become God. Earlier doctors would assist a woman in labor to deliver the baby normally waiting for a long time with patience. But now owing to their time which is money for them, some doctors prescribes Caesarean Section.
A Teacher wants every kid in the class to be bright and grasp what is told the very first time. Again here the time to spend with a kid who is slow in learning does not seem to be viable as time is money even here. Both the professions have stooped to minting money and they do not want to waste time.
Yes, I do agree that there are many many well mannered doctors and teachers. As in past even in future I would need them. This write up is not against the teaching or healthcare professionals but only wants a doctor and a teacher to be more patient and not to show a certain amount of high handedness which might make others feel intolerable as they would have come to them with enormous hope pinned on them................ Isn't it??????
