Vedanta is revered to be the highest philosophy according to Sanatana Dharma. It is also termed as the culmination part of the ancient scripture called Vedas and nothing can be beyond it. Vedas and Vedanta have the crux of merging with the Absolute mentioned in a very subtle way and it is difficult to comprehend. In a span of five hundred years Acharyas trio Sri Sri Sankara, Srimad Ramanuja and Sriman Madhva arose to assist the seekers to easily understand the secrets in Vedas and Vedanta.

On the surface the teachings of the three Acharyas appear to be contrary to each other but they never failed to throw light on the Truth mentioned in Vedas and Vedanta. The three paths of Advaita (Monism), Vishishtadvaita (Qualified Monism) and finally Dvaita (Dualism) are synthesized as branches of the same Knowledge and same Truth.

Advaita emphasizes that there is only Brahman (Absolute Consciousness) and nothing else. All living and non-living beings are manifestation of that same Brahman. With Jnana (Knowledge) of Brahman a Jeevi can become Brahman.

Vishishtadvaita says Brahman is separate entity and so are Prakruti (Cosmic Consciousness) and Jeevi (Individual Consciousness) but all the three are part of that Brahman while their separateness and unity is simultaneous and eternal depending on Jnana (Knowledge) acquired and Bhakti (Devotion) expressed towards Brahman.

Dvaita highlights that Brahman (Absolute Consciousness) is altogether different from His creation and hence the creation and Brahman can never become one. Although Jeevi (Individual Consciousness) can never be Brahman but only with Jnana (Knowledge), Bhakti (Devotion) and Viragaya (Detachment) Jeevi may reach Brahman.

According to what I understand Sri Sri Sankara or Srimad Ramanuja or Sriman Madhva were right in explaining about Brahman in their point of view. While Sri Sri Sankara was inclined towards Samya Bhava which establish Emotion of Equality and endorses the Tvamevaham (Tvam Eva Aham) which means I am You. Srimad Ramanuja insisted on Ikya Bhava which pushes for Emotion for Identity and approves Tavaivaham (Tava Eva Aham) which means I am a part of You. And finally Sriman Madhva brings in Bedha Bhava which highlights the Emotion in Distinction and supports Tassyaivaham (Tasya Eva Aham) which means I am verily His.

In Ramayana, Rama asks Hanuman “How do you perceive me as?”

Hanuman answered thus:

Deha Buddhya tu Dasoham, Jiva Buddhya Tvadaamsakah |
Atma Buddhya Tvamevaham, iti me nishchita matih ||

“Oh Lord, while I identify myself with my body, I am your servant. When I consider myself as Individual Soul, I am Your part. But when I look upon myself as the Eternal Soul, I am one with You.”

Hanuman has experienced all the three Avasthas (Conditions). When He was to jump 100 yoganas to reach Lanka from Danuskoti He manifested Himself as larger showing the Samya Tattva (Equal to Brahman) in Him. After the war with Ravana and getting back Sita Devi, Shri Rama hugged Hanuman here Hanuman could experience the Ikya Tattva (Identity with Brahman) and finally at the Pattabhishekam (Coronation) ceremony of Shri Rama, Hanuman retreats back from Samya and Ikya to Bedha Tattva (Difference with Brahman) and sits at the lotus feet of Shri Rama gazing them.

Today is Hanuma Jayanthi. I bow to Lord Shri Rama who forever resides in Hanuman.
