Once a journalist asked a Jnani residing in Himalayas, “I have heard that this creation was formed by emanation, from what does it emanate? Into what is it withdrawn?” The Jnani answered, "From freedom it sprouted and nurtured in freedom and into freedom it merges again."
Maturity has three levels physical, mental and spiritual. Physical maturity normally does happen without much of efforts or concern, while mental maturity needs a little effort and concern and will unfold as we age and gain experience. But spiritual maturity is not got by age or experience. There are instance where young and inexperienced have attained spiritual maturity. How a person is spiritually matured? There are many traits only few which I can list here is; to keep the Ego away, ability to learn from all, to observe things without reacting instantly, have empathy and sympathy.
What happens if we are not spiritually matured? A person how much ever he is rich or famous or powerful he is bonded by ignorance, desire and insecurity. These three may appear individually or each leading to the other. Ignorance is the ability to reject something without knowing about it. It gets aided with arrogance and ego. They say “Ignorance is Bliss” Can ignorance be a blissful state? If yes, why would it cause rift in our life? As there are consequences to actions, there are consequences to non-action as well. I categories ignorance to non-action since one does not act due to ignorance. Hence instead of saying “Ignorance is Bliss” one can say “Innocence is Bliss.” When ignorance gets the support of desire there is work force that is going to explode. And such work force which has no guidance of empathy or sympathy will create havoc and chaos.
For the one who does not want to come out of ignorance the dream seems endless. For him aging, ailment, and death to the physical body and stress, anxiety and alienation to the mental body becomes a routine fun. The dream seems to be enchanting. Unless the dreamer is awake and aware he is disillusioned to believe that dream is the reality. There has to be a way to get out of this, what is the way out???
Knowledge when contemplated upon produces wisdom. Knowledge can make a seeker well informed but it is wisdom that makes him spiritually matured. Some say “Knowledge and ego are inversely proportional the more the knowledge less the ego and less the knowledge more the ego.” But at times knowledge can also inflate ego. Amazingly the best feed as well as best antidote for ego is knowledge. Knowledge when contemplated and put into use will make ego disappear and gives way for wisdom. Annihilation of Ego is blossoming of wisdom.
Wisdom drives off ignorance by inducing Samatvabhava (Equanimity) in the seeker. The first lesson is that there is difference in physical realm and mental realm due to the name and form which brings in divide, but at the core all are same. The same Consciousness illuminates me as well as a stock man on the Wall Street, New York city or for the matter the Bushmen of the Kalahari. It is this Knowledge which every scripture illustrates that endows the person with clarity in vision without hampering his thoughts by luring him towards names and forms. Spiritually mature person looks beyond names and forms and is greeted by the undivided energy everywhere and that is where he gets merged.

Though the consciousness is the same in everyone.it is polluted by the vasanas ,means desires. That is what makes an individual and hence all the individuals are unique in their own way. .For this reason is given in the scriptures. The combination of three gunas makes them different. As told by you,"i am the best" attitude is formed because of Ego.it doesn't allow the individual to acquire more knowledge. may be he acquires it doesn't allows to contemplate and introspect .Whatever knowledge is put into practice one becomes matured and called Wise. The whole perspective changes to that individual. Nice points.
ReplyDeleteConsciousness does not get polluted Kalavathi ji .... i think you also agree......Consciousness is pure like a crystal what has happen is that it is shrouded Tri-Gunas which are triggered by Vasanas (Tendencies) and Samskaras (Impression). Just like the dust on the mirror by wiping off the dust the mirror is reflection of the self on the mirror is immaculate........Clearing the Vasanas and Samskaras will be the task which a seeker does when in spiritual path..... Right??????
