When asked to describe an ideal life style, Mahatma Gandhi replayed by saying “Simple Living and High Thinking”.
Although his thoughts are very tough to practice if one try to emulate such a life style he is a peaceful person. Simple lifestyle would be the right way of life. There is no person who has found happiness by living a flashy lifestyle. Agreed that his lifestyle may make many of his close aides keep their finger on their nose, but then is the individual happy???
The answer is NO. There is no need of branded or designer clothes when it comes to protecting our selves from the elements. And also simple diet would be far better than straining our internal system with huge variety of exotic food. Throwing parties every other night neither gets us long-lasting friends nor does it permanently remove the boredom. Does only the top end vehicle get us to the desired destination????
There is no point in having huge fuel gulping vehicles to move around. Simplicity is often synonymous with beauty. If the needs are reduced to the bare minimum then our demands would also be in limit so that the precious resources of the earth are used minimal. The resources that we are enjoying now are virtually the loan from our next generation. We have to start showing consideration for our fellow beings who are not as well gifted as we are.
By reducing our demand, we would check inflation and help in making things more affordable for the poor section of the society. Amazing nature of desire is that the more we get the more we want. Suppose we buy a new car, the happiness often is lost after some days as we are not satisfied and would desire something better than what we have. Real happiness is in contentment and being happy with what we have and live a simple life.
High thinking certainly provides us with a better evolution path. We are blessed with superior thinking facility compared to other beings. This is the only trump card for us to probe further into the real purpose of our existence and what we need to do to better ourselves in particular and the society in general.
High thinking also helps us to rising above insignificant and mundane issues. As one grows spiritually, one tends to think about higher things and does not get trapped and lost in the usual materialistic matters.
