The search for a perfect person who can be with us for life and provide us happiness unstoppably is our aspiration. In our life span we would have met many people whom we might have considered to be the perfect person. While still younger days of our relationship we find them very interesting and our bond does work like magic, but as the days go older and the circumstances and situation change. Either we or they would show their true colours and there is a rift. Neither of them can be blamed because after all we are humans and are not perfect at all. What might look right for us may not go well with other.
So is there a person whom we can call Atma Bandhu (Soul Mate)???????
Yes, the Alwars (Saint Poets) of the Vishistadvaita Philosophy have found their Atma Bandhu in Sriman Narayana. He is the one only person who can be our Soul Mate and he is willing to don that role but it is so unfortunate that we are ignoring that very enchanting and eternal relationship and trying to look for a person in this mortal world to fit our requirements.
Many devotees have had Atma Bandhu as Him and have experienced the relationship. But they have never revealed it to other as they felt it would hinder their bondage with Him. They had maintained it as a low profile never wanting it to be used to boast their personality.
There is a story of such a devotee named Kuruva Nambi who was a potter living in Tirumala. He made his living making pots for the famous temple at Tirumala. He was doing pots all by himself without anyone to help and thus was very busy throughout the day. In his busy schedule he could not accommodated the darshan of Lord Venkateshwara, hence he had made a small idol of the Lord and would offer his worship to it.
Once it was the time of annual festival at Tirumala called Brahmostsavam. Kuruva Nambi was so busy making pots to fulfill the requirement of pots for the fest and so he was unable to get the flowers for his worship. He has an idea, he thought all maters get transformed, the flower is nothing but transformation of mud, why not make mud flowers and offer it to lord??????
So he made flowers out of clay and offered to Lord, at the same time the King of the region visited the temple and used to offer the Lord special flowers that were made of gold. One day the King noticed clay flowers at the feet of the Lord in the Sanctum Sanctorum, while the gold flowers he had offered were moved aside. Seeing this King was excited and wanted to know who had offered clay flower which were accepted by the Lord, rather than his gold flowers. That night Lord appeared in the Kings dream and told him about His devotee who was offering clay flowers from the Manas Pooja (mental worship)
King reached the place of the potter and told him about the event. The moment Kuruva Nambi heard this he feared that his bond with the Lord is no more a secret and this would lead to self pride and eventually will lose his relationship with the Lord. Unable to imagine the loss of bond with the Lord Kuruva Nambi breathed his last.
The Absolute is and will be Atma Bandhu (Soul Mate). If we negate all our relationships we find solace in the last but long lasting bond-
THE BOND WITH THE LORD.
Lets us make it reality. We need not go in search to have a soul mate, we can have one with our own Atma. The Bond of Jeevatma with Paramathma. The Eternal Bond.
