A spiritual seeker cannot become an enlightened soul by the cumulative knowledge from reading scriptures. Reading the scriptures is like having a look at the road map to the desire destination, if one has to reach the destination one has to make the efforts to thread the path. If one can align himself with the Absolute, he will begin to experience Him and will extract the power to understand Him better. This is how one can then have the transition from lower desires to higher states of insight and understanding and will truly begin to comprehend Absolute. And in comprehending the Absolute one will begin to know self better. This kind of knowing can only be taught and learned from within and from that very moment Absolute is no doubt with us and we never perceive our own self as being a separate entity. The moment we doubt the Absolute we are no longer in Oneness with Him we unconsciously disconnect from Him which leads to disconnection with our own self.
An enlightened soul intentionally nurtures this connection with the Absolute so that there is a consistent union with the self. It is like finding constant brightness of light during the stay on this earth plane, with conscious knowledge to keep the lamp of our mind pure and clean so that the light will seldom flicker, but instead will rage in continuous glory. An enlightened soul is a blissful being, not necessarily with things that make him happy from external source but by the peace within. When this light of wisdom and higher knowledge is truly ingrained in us, the miseries how much ever it might be will never drive us into darkness.
In short enlightenment is to be connected to Absolute to get the answers to who we are, where we came from, why we are here and where are we going. These are like the signboards which help us in the journey of life and death. When we are familiar with all those signboards it will be easy for us to reach the threshold of our destination. That is to get liberation.
A serious seeker is one who tries to attain enlightenment while he is alive and aspires for salvation after his death. He relentlessly makes an effort to improve his intellect and gain knowledge so that he can thread the path of Truth. This act of his pleases his Self and the Absolute will dwell in his heart. – Atharvana Veda.
Enlightened Soul is one who is a seer, not the one who uses eye alone but the inner sight as well and is capable of perceiving Absolute in every living and non living thing. Enlightened Soul is one who experiences the Oneness and has the sense of equanimity. There are many who accept this fact in the intellectual level but unfortunately being pulled by this materialistic world, fail to conduct themselves in that manner. A real enlightened soul is the one who experiences Oneness with the Absolute at all circumstances weather in hardship or in pleasure. He has the mind set of accepting fortune as well as miseries as the grace of the Absolute without any sort of grumble. There is a belief that to be an enlightened soul one has to live the family and society and go in to the mountains in solitude, but that is not required if one understands that he is the eternal Soul and not his Body or his Mind.
